We’ve hosted major national and international events, including world curling championships and national figure skating competitions. We have a history of hosting sports in Red Deer
A winning combination of great facilities, a central location, enthusiastic volunteers and abundant high quality accommodations makes the Red Deer Region an ideal host city for sporting events of all sizes. In 2019, we hosted our biggest sporting event ever, the Canada Winter Games. It took a lot of work to host the largest multisport event in the nation, but we did it. With upgraded facilities and enthusiastic volunteers, we ensured the 3,600 athletes, their coaches, their families and their fans experienced the best games ever.
In 2016, the Red Deer Rebels hosted the 98th edition of the MasterCard Memorial Cup at Enmax Centrium in Westerner Park. Over 500 local volunteers worked together to make sure the event went off without a hitch. The City has a track record for excellence in hosting major sporting events. Several national and international sporting events like the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Brier, the world junior hockey championships and national figure skating events have previously taken place in this region.
