Experience the exhilarating thrill of riding the Canyon Coaster at Canyon Ski Resort in Red Deer, as you glide along the luge track, navigating through ski slopes and forest trails. This exciting coaster spans an impressive length of over 1300 meters and offers an incredible vertical drop of 440 feet. The attraction officially opened on Friday, August 5, 2022, making it Alberta’s first and only Alpine Coaster.

But that's not all! This summer, Canyon Ski Resort has added another exciting feature: the longest summer tubing slide in Western Canada! The slide boasts two tube lanes, each spanning 453 feet, and is made from slippery Neveplast material, enhancing the thrill and enjoyment. It's a perfect activity for the whole family, providing fun for everyone. To access the slide and purchase tickets, simply visit the ticket booth located in the upper village of the resort.

Attractions and Amenities

Visit the Upper Village at Canyon Ski Resort to have access to their full ticket booth, washrooms, popular food and beverage options, and the Coaster and Summer Tubing attractions.  

Be sure to visit the Eagle Nest concession this summer while you’re having fun in the sun. Guests have the convenience of placing orders from their phones by scanning the QR code displayed at the resort or by simply stopping by the kitchen window. The concession offers a variety of mouthwatering treats, including gourmet burgers, poutine, caesar salad, polish sausage, and kid-friendly meals. Indulge yourself afterward with a refreshing craft beer, cold soda, or a cup of coffee, and don’t forget to try their delightful soft-serve ice cream or explore the other enticing options available!

Coaster Usage and Guidelines

Once it’s your turn to ride, you’ll be called forward to load. At that point, your wristband will be scanned, and you’ll receive the necessary instructions for operating the ride safely. Riders have the ability to control their speed using their own brakes, allowing them to reach speeds of up to 40 km per hour as they navigate the thrilling twists and turns of the track, descending into the Canyon! This fantastic summer attraction offers enjoyment for individuals of all ages and physical abilities. Even young children aged 3 and above can participate by riding as passengers, accompanied by a responsible person who is at least 16 years old.

Regulations and Prohibitions

Canyon wants to ensure that visitors are enjoying themselves safely. Some of the regulations for using the Canyon Coaster are as follows:

  • Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable; no refunds will be permitted.
  • Loose clothing (belts, scarves and shoelaces, etc.) and long hair (braids) must be kept away from the track and wheels.
  • Riders must wear seatbelts at all times and keep their arms and legs within the cart. Leaning out or stretching arms and legs out of the toboggan is prohibited. Do not touch the track.
  • Animals or umbrellas, walking sticks and other bulky, pointed or loose objects may not be taken onto the coaster.
  • People under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol, drugs and sensory influencing drugs, etc.) are not allowed to use the system.
  • Smoking is prohibited during the ride.
  • Accidents must be reported immediately to the operating personnel.
  • Handheld devices including phones and action cameras are not permitted. If you wish to use an action camera, you must use a chest harness or head mount.
  • A maximum speed of 40km/h will be managed by a push to go forward brake and a centrifugal brake.
  • Riders must have sufficient physical dexterity, ability and knowledge to safely load, ride and unload the coaster.
  • The Coaster is not recommended for pregnant women and those with pre-existing neck or back injuries.

Tickets can be purchased online to save your spot, or visitors can purchase tickets directly at the ticket booth in the Upper Village. During peak days, it is recommended to purchase your tickets online due to the popularity of these attractions.
