Check out what's happening this long weekend in Red Deer and central Alberta!  

1. The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society invites you to the 2022 Canada Day Celebration at Bower Ponds Recreation. The event starts at 11:00 am on July 1 to ends with fireworks at 11:00 pm. Enjoy international food booths, bouncy castles, culturally diverse performances, artisan booths, children’s activities, and great music.

2. Lacombe & District Historical Society presents Canada Day Garden High Tea Party on July 1st, 3:00 pm at the Michener House Museum and Heritage Learning Garden. For more information and tickets, visit their website: https://lacombemuseum.com/event/garden-high-tea/

3. The Downtown Business Association is hosting Ross Street Patio Performances this summer. A partnership between The City of Red Deer and the Downtown Business Association, the Patio features free, live music for the Summer and early Fall season. They are proudly featuring talented local musicians and bands that contribute to the amazing atmosphere you will find on the beloved Patio. Events are free and open to the public. The Ross Street Patio is excited to have summer performances, Wednesday performances are from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, and Thursday's & Friday's 12:00 pm -1:30 pm.

4. DNA Gardens presents birding at a local natural area with Myrna Pearman, author, naturalist, and photographer. This event takes place on Saturday, July 2, it is $25.00 per person, and it's adults only 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Also, that evening they are having Night-Time Bat Walk with Bat Biologist on Saturday, July 2. They are located in Red Deer County near Elnora. This fun and educational Alberta Community Bat Association biologist will give a bat talk; watch bats leave their boxes. Supper and cocktails are available for purchase. 5. Ellis Bird Farm is also having Canada Day celebrations on Friday, July 1, from 12:00-5:00 pm. Join them for family activities, face painting, egg-and-spoon races, and kids sack races. The Cafe will also have hotdogs available for a fun and light lunch. Drop-in visitors are also welcome at Ellis Bird Farm during the summer months. They invite you to stroll the trails, enjoy the beautiful gardens, see the world's largest outdoor collection of bluebird nestboxes, take a tour out to our bluebird trail, visit the Visitor Centre and linger in the Tea House.

6. The Track on 2 is happy that their standardbred racing is back! Starting this Sunday, July 3 and every Sunday in July. Post time is 1:10 pm. Enjoy the excitement and bet on the live horse racing (over 18). Attendance and parking are free and all ages are welcome They are family-friendly and have stick horse races, games, and other activities for the kids.
