Check out what's happening this weekend in Red Deer and central Alberta!
1. It’s the Blue Bird Festival at Ellis Bird Farm on Saturday, July 9 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Demonstrations and talks, nature crafts, face painting, bird house kit building, and more. They invite you to stroll the trails, enjoy the beautiful gardens, see the world's largest outdoor collection of bluebird nestboxes, take a tour out to our bluebird trail, visit the Visitor Centre and linger in the Tea House. 2. Check out the Ross Street Patio Performances sometime this summer. A partnership between The City of Red Deer and the Downtown Business Association, the Patio features free, live music for the Summer and early Fall season. Wednesday performances are from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, and Thursday's & Friday's 12:00 pm -1:30 pm. The Friday, July 7 performance is by Thomas Hutlet, from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. They are proudly featuring talented local musicians and bands that contribute to the amazing atmosphere you will find on the beloved Patio.
3. Cirque Du Soleil "OVO" is performing at the Peavey Mart Centrium at Westerner Park. Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to announce its return to Red Deer, July 7-10, 2022, with its high-energy and high-acrobatic production OVO, this exciting Cirque du Soleil experience, OVO is a colorful intrusion into a new day in the life of insects; a non-stop riot of energy and movement. Through show-stopping acrobatics highlighting the unique personalities and abilities of selected insect species, OVO explores the beauty of biodiversity in all its contrasts and vibrancy. 4. Bull Skit Comedy presents Dark Carnival: Freakshow Fundraiser Bo’s Bar and Stage. Step right up and experience a strange, one-of-a-kind spectacle, the Dark Carnival. Pull back the curtain to reveal the secrets hidden behind the Bull Skit Big Top- if you dare! The Ringmaster's choice of entertainers will please your senses. With simply one ticket, you can indulge in the oddities, but if you’ve got the dime you can choose the torture our ring acts may endure. For more information and tickets, click here.
5. Prime Stock Theatre presents Bard in a Box: Bottom's Up on Saturday, July 9, 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm and the second performance of Midsummer Night's Dream performance at 7:00 pm. Join them at Bower Ponds, admission is free, though any donations are appreciated. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy some bite-sized Shakespeare in the Park.
6. Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery presents the Downtown Buildings Walking Tour on Saturday, July 9 at 1:00 - 2:00 pm. What was Red Deer like over 100 years ago? In the early days, Ross Street has been a destination for visitors since the arrival of the railway in the 1890’s. Learn about the people and places that shaped Red Deer and enjoy the public art along the way. Join us for a 1 hour guided historical walking tour in downtown Red Deer.
7. The Track on 2 is happy that their standardbred racing is back! Starting this Sunday, July 10 and every Sunday in July. Post time is 1:10 pm. Enjoy the excitement and bet on the live horse racing (over 18). Attendance and parking are free and all ages are welcome They are family-friendly and have stick horse races, games, and other activities for the kids.
