1. The Westerner Days Fair & Exposition returns to Red Deer from July 20 – 24, 2022. Central Alberta’s largest summer celebration is back! Enjoy 3 more days of fun with events like the nightly pony chuckwagon races, chariots, and mini chucks. Also returning are the thrilling midway rides, concerts, free entertainment, nightly firework extravaganzas, and mouth-watering delicious midway foods. Rock and Roll on the Main Stage in the Peavey Mart Centrium on Friday night with Corb Lund and Saturday night with Alan Doyle! 2. Kraay Family Farm opened this week on Monday, July 18. Join them Friday or Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. The Kraay Family Farm is located just west of Lacombe, and with over 40 attractions and amenities, the family is sure to be kept busy. With a farmyard, corn maze, jumping pillow, mini golf, and more, the fun never stops at Kraay Family Farm. This year’s 2022 Corn Maze Design is Mental Health Matters. They are raising awareness about your mental health, the mental health of your loved ones, and the mental health of your neighbours and your community. They know that some of the best ways to take care of ourselves are by taking time to be with those we love and to spend time outside and we would love to see you doing both of those things here at the Kraay Family Farm.
3. The Red Deer Super 10K and Sprint 5Km Spartan race is at Heritage Ranch on July 23 & 24. The race is back again and taking over Heritage Ranch. Cheer on the competitors in the beautiful sprawling park that lies on the banks of the Red Deer River.
4. Summer Outdoor Market at Gasoline Alleys Farmers Market is on this Saturday, July 23 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. This summer they are expanding the market outdoors through June, July, and August. The Summer Outdoor Market will take place every Saturday afternoon from 1:00- 4:00 pm. Stop by to see their new vendors. Join them for a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, July 24 from 10:00 am –noon in celebration of Westerner Days. This is the last day of the fair and it is Family Day, so bring the whole crew along for Pancake Breakfast before you head on over! Pancake Breakfast is free, while supplies last. It will be first come, first served.
5. Prime Stock Theatre presents Bard on Bower, they are having two performances of Midsummer Night's Dream one on Friday, July 22 at 7:00 pm, and again on Saturday, July 23, at 1:00 pm. Richard II performances will be on Saturday, July 23, at 1:00 pm, and also on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Join them at Bower Ponds, admission is free, though any donations are appreciated. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy some bite-sized Shakespeare in the Park.
6. Check out the Ross Street Patio Performances sometime this summer, the Patio features free, live music for the Summer and early Fall season. Wednesday performances are from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, and Thursday's & Friday's 12:00 pm -1:30 pm. They are proudly featuring talented local musicians and bands that contribute to the amazing atmosphere you will find on the beloved Patio.
7. Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery is hosting another “Ghosts of the Past” sculpture tour on Saturday, July 23 at 1:00 pm. Have you seen the ghosts of Red Deer? This renowned bronze public art collection was initiated by the Downtown Business Association and helps tell some of the stories of Red Deer’s past. The ghosts represent people, folklore and past ways of life. Most sculptures are symbols of times past, of community spirit or service that made Red Deer a better place to live. Join them for a 1 hour guided historical walking tour in downtown Red Deer. Please register in advance to save a spot. Donations gratefully accepted (suggested donation of $2/person). 9. The Track on 2 has their Sunday Race, Post time is 1:10 pm. Enjoy the excitement and bet on the live horse racing (over 18). Attendance and parking are free and all ages are welcome They are family-friendly and have stick horse races, games, and other activities for the kids. pm.
