Check out what's happening this weekend in Red Deer and Central Alberta!
1. Fort Normandeau Days is this weekend! Have a blast in the past as they celebrate life as it was at the Crossing, circa 1885. Join them at Fort Normandeau Saturday or Sunday from noon – 5:00 pm. Event highlights: Cannon & firearms demonstrations, music & dance performances, axe throwing, face painting, settler games, and old-fashioned homemade ice cream. Everyone is welcome, it is $5 per person or $20 for a group of up to 5 (cash only). Drop in, come and go as you please. Click here for more details.
2. Summer Party at Gasoline Alleys Farmers Market this Saturday, August 27 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Celebrate our last outdoor market of the summer at their Summer Party. Lots of family-friendly fun, including a bouncy castle, face painting, a clown, a magician, lawn games, live music, and outside vendors! It's free to attend.
3. The Track on 2 has their Sunday Race, Post time is 1:10 pm. Enjoy the excitement and bet on the live horse racing (over 18). Attendance and parking are free, and all ages are welcome. They are family-friendly and have stick horse races, games, and other activities for the kids. They also have one more Wednesday evening race on August 31 and that race starts at 5:10 pm. 4. Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery are hosting another downtown building walking tour on Saturday, August 27 at 1:00 pm. Learn about the people and places that shaped Red Deer and enjoy the public art along the way. Join them for a 1 hour guided historical walking tour in downtown Red Deer. Please register in advance to save a spot. Donations gratefully accepted (suggested donation of $2/person). Tours start at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery. Click here to register.
5. Food Truck Friday at Capstone this Friday, August 26 from 11 am – 2:00 pm. Spend your lunch hour down at Capstone for Food Truck Fridays! Make sure to try delicious food from Roly Guacamole. This is a great location with places to sit to enjoy your food and paths to walk with beautiful views of the Red Deer River.
6. Capstone is also having a Discovery Bus Open House this weekend at Canada 150 Square in Capstone. Enjoy live music, ice cream, yard game Olympics, and prizes. Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 the hours are noon – 9:00 pm. Sunday, August 28, noon – 6:00 pm. Click here to see all the details.
7. The Lacombe & District Historical Society is hosting a few events around their Lacombe Museums this weekend. Join them Friday or Saturday for their historic walking tours. Enjoy all of Lacombe’s famous art murals and historic downtown, explore what life was like in the early days of this dusty town, and discover the stories of its first doctors, businessmen, and politicians. 8. Lacombe Museum Artisan Market is also on Saturday, August 27 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on 49th street in downtown Lacombe. With over 20 local vendors there are a lot of great artists, producers, and makers to check out. The artisan market is being held just down the street from the Lacombe Museum Annual Hammer-In Festival at the Lacombe Blacksmith Shop. Check out both!
9. Soar down the Luge track at the Canyon Coaster. Weave in and out of the ski slope and forest trails on the brand-new alpine coaster at Canyon Ski Resort. This Coaster reaches over 1300 meters in length with a total 440-foot vertical drop. If you are heading out on Saturday or Sunday, make sure to book your tickets in advance, they do sell out fast. 10. Western Canadian Reptile Expo 2022 is taking place on August 27 and 28, 2022. The show will once again be held at the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre. This show is all about animals and proper care and education. Not only will you see an endless menagerie of reptiles and amphibians, but there are also plenty of vendors to help you provide the best quality of life for these animals!
