What’s Happening this Weekend | April 29-May 1, 2022

Gather your family and head down to Discovery Wildlife Park this weekend and meet their newest addition a baby Yak. The opening day is this Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and if you haven’t seen the antics of the baby bears Piper and Bo (though not so little anymore) don’t worry they are still cute and incredibly playful.

Head on down to Paint of Interest in Red Deer this weekend and discover the artist within. This art café is an amazing place where you can paint on pottery, stoneware, canvas, paper, glass, or wood. They also have workshops, and it is the perfect place to have a party and be creative.

Red Deer Rebels are back for game 5 in the Playoffs to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Peavey Mart Centrium this Friday at 7:00 pm. There are still tickets at Tickets Alberta so get out and support your local team. Go Rebels Go!

Kerry Wood Nature Centre is hosting a scavenger hunt in the Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary this Saturday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. They have hidden the footprints of several different animals along a 1km trail. Find and identify them all before your time runs out. This is a drop-in event, and the cost is $3.00 a person or $10 per family (cash preferred).

It’s a beautiful weekend to get out and explore our trails winding throughout the city of Red Deer from Heritage Ranch to Maskepetoon. Whether you walk, hike, bike, or scooter you’re sure to have a good time.

There is always something exciting happening at our museums with everything from sports at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame to art at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery. If you’re in Lacombe don’t forget to drop by the Flatiron Building Museum, they will be open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Westerner Park is hosting the CAVAC 51s Annual Red Deer Swap Meet this Friday and Saturday at the Parkland, Praire and Stockmens Pavilion. If you are into vintage cars you will love this event, tickets are $5.00 and kids under 12 are free. The 15th Annual Red Deer Gun Show is also happening this Saturday and Sunday in the Exhibition Hall at Westerner Park. admission is $10 at the door and kids 12 and under are free.

Mother’s Day is soon upon us so why not check out Red Deer Made in the County showcasing over 100 Alberta Artisans, Makers, and Foodies. It’s happening this Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 am at the Pidherney Centre, a great time to shop local.

The Red Deer Pottery and the Red Deer Art Club are hosting a Spring Show and Shine this Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Recreation Centre downtown. This is a great time to find that extra special gift for Mom on Mother’s Day next weekend.
