3. KRAAY FAMILY FARM

4. KERRY WOOD NATURE CENTRE PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE PARTY

During a solar eclipse, the Moon aligns perfectly between the Sun and Earth, creating a shadow on the Earth's surface. With the appropriate equipment, you can safely observe the Sun as the Moon partially obscures its light. On October 14, Red Deer will have a unique opportunity to witness a partial solar eclipse, a spectacle that won't be seen in the city again until January 2029. If you're in the vicinity, we invite you to visit the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for a safe glimpse of the Sun through our various viewing options. This event runs from 9:00 am to noon, but here are the major eclipse times to be aware of, Eclipse begins at 9:15 am, Eclipse at maximum at 10:27 am, Eclipse ends at 11:44 a.m.

You can also view the eclipse safely from almost anywhere in Canada as long as you purchase or borrow a pair of eclipse glasses beforehand. Eclipse glasses are available for purchase from the Nature Store in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for $3.50 each.

5. GASOLINE ALLEY FARMERS MARKET

8. NEW EXHIBIT AT LACOMBE MUSEUM
The Flatiron Building Museum Gallery has a new exhibit called: The Ones We Met: Inuit Traditional Knowledge and the Franklin Expedition. This exhibition explores the importance of Qaujimajatuqangit — Inuit traditional knowledge —which made it possible to determine the fate of the Franklin Expedition, which had set out in 1845 to complete a Northwest Passage. For generations, Inuit shared memories of meetings with sick and starving men, as well as visits to an abandoned ship locked in the ice.
