Red Deer has several beautiful and historic homes from the Allen Bungalow to the Parsons Residence. These homes come with a history and some pretty good stories as well. In August, we had the pleasure of joining some friends at the newly opened Solorzano Café & Wine Bar in the beautiful Solorzano Spa, formerly known as the Historic McIntosh House, built-in 1906. Upon entering, you are filled with nostalgia from the past, a curiosity about the people who built it and lived there. There is an interesting article written by the Red Deer Express that talks about the McIntosh House and its’ past that gave me an insight into its history. This lovely historic home owned by the Solorzano family now houses a beautiful spa, café and Friday and Saturday nights a wine bar, from 5 pm -7 pm.
Besides seating indoors, various outdoor spaces are available, from the veranda to the side garden and a lovely back patio, perfectly wonderful when the weather is warm. We chose to be seated in their backyard patio, where they presented us with a delicious wine list and had a selection of Tapas as well as a delightful Charcuterie Board, which the four of us enjoyed very much. The evening ended much too soon, and we all vowed to return next time to try out their spa services. Solorzano Spa is a real delight right at the edge of downtown, and part of those beautiful quaint places that call Red Deer home.
