We are very fortunate to have 77 outdoor ice surfaces to use at our leisure, including boarded and snow banked rinks, three skating ponds, and even a 400-metre outdoor natural ice speed skating oval.

Either pack up your skates this holiday season or rent some at Bower Ponds recreation area. The beautiful park scenery is enjoyable during the daylight hours and is transformed into a Christmas dream complete with twinkling lights in the evening. If you are looking for another great experience, try our 400-metre speed skating oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park. If indoor skating is more your jam, then maybe check out our various indoor arenas for their drop-in skating.

Take to the Hills without leaving Red Deer

Looking for a break from the rink, then you need to head to the hills and get the skis on at Canyon Ski Resort.  You don't need to head to the mountains for a day of skiing and snowboarding; try Canyon's Ski Resort with 80 acres of skiable terrain, 23 runs and six lifts. They also have a highspeed snow tube park with glow night tubing, rentals, rustic lodge, food court and take-out.

Experience our trails on skis or snowshoes

Here in Red Deer, we are fortunate to have several spacious areas perfect for your skiing experience. River Bend Golf and Recreation Area offers 19 km of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by the beautiful Red Deer River Valley with 4 km of lighted trails for evening runs and ample space for those who might prefer to snowshoe. Escape indoors for some waterpark fun

Whether in your hotel or at our recreation facilities, there's a great place to escape the winter temperatures! From the Collicutt Centre or the G.H Dawe Community Centre, you're bound to have some fun.

Take the kids for an afternoon of play at the Collicutt Water park, with their wave pool, lazy river, water slides, and interactive water playground. G.H. Dawe Water Park features two water slides and five pool basins from a lane pool to a spray pool; so much fun and a chance to get in from the outdoors.
