Membership Spotlight | Taco Monster
Taco Monster can be found year-round at the Gasoline Alley Farmers' Market and in the summer months, you can spot their food truck all-around Red Deer. We interviewed Jonathan Strome, the owner of Taco Monster below:
1. Tell us about your company?
Taco Monster was started by Red Deer local Jonathan Strome. June 2, 2020, Taco Monster opened a food truck serving "Scary Good Tacos". The community support lead to a crowdfunding campaign than helped fund almost 1/3 of the start-up costs of a restaurant location in Gasoline Alley. January 29, 2021 was the grand opening of our location inside The Market Kitchen (connected to the Gasoline Alley Indoor Farmer's Market). The restaurant and food truck are both operational allowing us to build our community year round and still attend all our favourite local events. Our menu sports primarily local ingredients, with a variety of adventurous, unexpected, and family-friendly soft shell tacos. Our giant Purple Taco Monster, named Chomp, has become an icon for local taco lovers of all ages.
2. What makes you different, unique, or stand out?
Our tacos do not follow the traditional rules of authentic Mexican cuisine apart from the fresh ingredients served on a tortilla shell. Our goal is to serve tasty tacos using quality ingredients for taco lovers of all ages. Our branding is playful and unexpected and has proven to bring many smiles to our guests.
3. Why do you do what you do?
We are driven by community connection. Food plays a primary role in people coming together to connect. If we can enhance these experiences, we have achieved our goal.
4. What can guests (local or visiting) expect to experience?
Adventurous, Unexpected, and Family Friendly. The bright colours, tasty tacos, and smiling faces that help create meaningful memories.
5. What is new or upcoming?
Our restaurant is still very new! Less than 2 years old, we are constantly working on improving our experience. Our restaurant allows us to serve a larger variety of tacos, fresh squeezed lemonade, and soon some new desserts!
