Dog Parks in Red Deer

Our dogs are our greatest source of happiness; they provide us unconditional love, constant companionship and make us laugh.

Our dogs are our greatest source of happiness; they provide us unconditional love, constant companionship and make us laugh when we are feeling down. They can also be destructive if they do not get enough exercise, so getting them out is a must. Here in Red Deer, we are very fortunate. Not only do we have an abundance of trails with over 100 km in Waskasoo Park to take them out for walks, but we also have two incredible off-leash dog parks, a place for them to run freely, explore and socialize.

Three Mile Bend is one of my favourites; it is along the river, with various ponds and a 3.4-kilometre walking loop. The area is always well kept, and there is plenty of parking, washroom facilities, benches, and picnic tables. In summer, you never have to worry about the heat as it is well shaded with plenty of trees with various places for the dogs to go for a swim. Winter brings another source of pleasure as they plough a large portion of the trails, so even on those frosty mornings, your pup can go for a walk. Please be aware that it is not fenced and there is plenty of wildlife sharing the park, so make sure you are with your dogs.

Oxbows Off-Leash Dog Park is another great park, with its diverse terrain, winding trails, and a small dog area; and although it is smaller than Three Mile Bend, it is designed exclusively for dogs and fully fenced. They have an agility park there to take your dogs through their paces; how much fun is that?

If your dog doesn’t do well off-leash, don’t worry, we have plenty of other parks like Mackenzie Trail park with the river, Heritage Ranch with their extensive trails or perhaps Maskepetoon Park, with their diverse landscaping. A reminder; they must be on a leash and remember to follow all the City of Red Deer’s Guidelines and Rules as you Explore Red Deer’s Backyard with your furry friend.
