Interactive museums make it fun to explore and discover history. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum  has a number of interactive games including a multi-sport area with virtual baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and soccer. Master your skills on the Mount Everest climbing wall and view inspiring displays honouring Alberta’s rich sports heritage.

Discovery Canyon in Red Deer is one of the most unique municipal water parks in the province.  Admission is free and float tubes can be rented at the concession for $5 (please bring photo ID as a deposit). You are welcome to bring your own float tube. Tubes can also be purchased for $20.

Bower Ponds offers a variety of recreational opportunities and a large playground with a view of the river. Stop by the Pavilion equipped with a café and equipment rentals – paddle boats and water balls (climb inside a large inflatable ball and walk on water!) surrey bikes and kayaks. An outdoor stage attracts many events each year including Canada Day celebrations.

Discovery Wildlife Park near Innisfail offers you and your family a chance to get close and personal with different species – some native to Alberta, others not. The park provides a permanent home for rescued and orphaned animals that cannot be released back into the wild.  Daily presentations focus on conservation and the pressures these animals are facing. For a truly memorable experience, book an all day adventure package with behind the scenes access to the big cats and wolves.

Within the Red Deer region and just a short drive from the City, you’ll find great campgrounds and day use areas with sandy beaches and lakes suitable for swimming. Try Aspen BeachSylvan Lake or Pine Lake – some of the nicest beaches in Alberta.
