Check out what's happening this weekend in Red Deer and Central Alberta!

1. The 30th Anniversary of the Red Deer Harvest Run is on Sunday at Capstone. The Red Deer Harvest Run is a family-friendly event and offers a 3km walk/run, and an 8km run through the beautiful Red Deer trail system. Participants of all ages can enjoy the event at the level they choose. Both distances have plenty of competitive runners and enthusiastic beginners. Walk-up entries are welcome or come down and cheer on the participants. For more information, visit www.harvestrun.org.

2. The town of Penhold is hosting its Fall Festival this weekend, September 9-10 at the Penhold Multiplex. Join them for two days of family fun for everyone. On Friday, September 9, there is a craft beer, wine and spirits festival from 6:00-10:00 pm, Mayor Mike's Mini Marathon for a Cause at 6:00 pm. Ma & Pa's Bakery Cafe Show & Shine 6:00-9:00 pm and food trucks starting at 6:00 pm. Saturday’s events include a Community TIES Pancake Breakfast at Memorial Hall at 8:00-10:00 am, a parade at 11:00 am, activities at Multiplex 1:00 - 5:00 pm, and a vendor market 12:00-5:00 pm at the Multiplex. There will also be food trucks, the Penhold Museum BBQ from 1:00-5:00 pm, and fireworks at 9:00 pm. For more information, visit https://www.townofpenhold.ca/p/fall-festival

3. Art in the Garden Red Deer at Parkland Garden Centre on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Local artists, local authors, local musicians, and food trucks from Noon - 4:30 pm. For more information, visit www.parklandgarden.ca.

4.Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery are hosting MAGnificent Saturdays for the month of September. Saturday, September 10 is Beautiful Boxed Botanicals from 1:00-4:00 pm. Free for September, all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. They supply the materials and the studio and the instructions, and all you do is bring your imagination.  Click here for more details.

5. Harvest Moon Walk at Kerry Wood Nature Centre. As night falls, a new world wakes up. Journey with a naturalist by the light of a full moon and listen to the Sanctuary come alive with the rustlings, squeaks, and yelps of wildlife. Learn about the stars, nocturnal animals, and things that go bump in the night.  Interacting with nature at night is a unique experience that will heighten your senses. Everyone is welcome and admission is by a suggested cash donation of $3/person or $10/family at the door. Drop-in, please arrive promptly at 9:00 pm. Please dress for the weather. 6. Join local artists around Red Deer in a way you have never seen them before at the Red Deer Arts Council's Open Studio Tour for Alberta Culture Days. Join local artists as they take you to their studio and show off the creative process that goes into creating a masterpiece. 7. The Track on 2 has their Sunday Race, Post time is 1:10 pm. Enjoy the excitement and bet on the live horse racing (over 18). Attendance and parking are free, and all ages are welcome. They are family-friendly and have stick horse races, games, and other activities for the kids. Check out their website here for more details.

8. Baymont by Wyndham is hosting the “It's Almost Fall Craft Show and Market” with an amazing lineup of vendors. Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 10:00 until 4:00 pm. Admission is free, check it out and support these amazing local vendors. Click here for more information.  

9. Red Hart Brewing is hosting a songwriter showcase on Sunday, September 11 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Enjoy the lyrical stylings of Ruby Grey and Dos Szabos in this intimate showcase. Tickets are $20, click here for more information and tickets.  

10. Rebels hockey is back! the Red Deer Rebels are fired up for their first pre-season game against the Calgary Hitmen. Put on your burgundy and black and head down to the Peavey Mart Centrium, Saturday, September 10, to cheer them on. The doors open at 6:00 pm and the puck drops at 7:00 pm.
