1. BOWER PONDS SKATING

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, so why not pull out the skates and go down to Bower Ponds. Bower Ponds has long been one of the most popular and scenic skating locations in the area and they also have skate rentals.

2. SKATING IN SYLVAN LAKE

Enjoying the lake all year round. Head out to Sylvan Lake and go skating down by the pier. It is tons of fun for the whole family! Plus, there are lots of spots along the lakeshore to grab a hot cocoa or a bite to eat to warm up afterward.

3. CANYON SKI HILL

Canyon Ski Resort is located just 10 minutes east of the city and is the largest non-mountain downhill ski resort in Alberta. The 28.6 hectare ski area has 20 runs, six lifts, lights for night skiing, a ski lodge, a large ski school, and equipment rentals. They also have a snow tube park at Canyon Ski Resort. The park is located at the top of the hill complete with 6 groomed lanes and you can book your tickets online.

4. WINTER CAMPING SKILLS AT KERRY WOOD NATURE CENTRE

Join the experienced staff at Kerry Wood Nature Centre over the weekend as you learn skills and techniques to maximize your fun. Learn different camping skills such as proper clothing,  equipment, water and food needs, as well as simple navigation and orientation skills.  

When: Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, 2023
Where: Kerry Wood Nature Centre
Cost: $20 per family. Pre-registration is required.  


5. RED DEER REBELS GAME

Cheer on the Red Deer Rebels either Friday, January 20 as they take on the Prince George Cougars, or Saturday, January 21 as they take on the Brandon Wheat Kings. Both games start at 7:00 pm at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

6. BULL SKIT COMEDY PRESENTS THE LAB

Bull Skit is bringing the community together and what better way to start 2023 than to give back to two amazing Improv teams here in Red Deer. Both Lindsay Thurber and Hunting Hill High School have participated in Nosebowl, Wildfire, and the Canadian Improv Games.

7. GASOLINE ALLEY FARMERS MARKET

Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market is a vibrant indoor market open year-round in Red Deer County that celebrates local producers, artisans, and farmers from Alberta. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  

When: Fri, Jan. 20 and Sat, Jan. 21 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) and Sun, Jan. 22 (10:00 am – 4:00 pm)

8. CROSS COUNTRY SKIING  

Here in Red Deer, we are fortunate to have several spacious areas perfect for your skiing experience. River Bend Golf and Recreation Area has 19 km of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by the beautiful Red Deer River Valley with 4 km of lighted trails for evening runs. They also have cross-country ski rentals for the whole family if you want to try it out.

9. RV SHOW & SALE AT WESTERNER PARK  

Woody's RV World and Southside Dodge will be bringing their best deals down to the grounds from January 19th - 29th, 2023.

When: Friday, January 19, 2023 – Sunday, January 29, 2023
Where: Westerner Park
Cost: FREE


10. HEALTHY LIVING EXPO
 

The Healthy Living Expo is an event that is packed full of health professionals, fitness centres, local artisan vendors, and so much more in the realm of health and wellness join for one BIG day at the Harvest Centre at Westerner Park.

When: Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Westerner Park
Cost: $5 per adult admission/ $10 per family
