Things to do this weekend | February 17-20, 2023

1. SNOWSHOEING AT KERRY WOOD NATURE CENTRE  

Kerry Wood Nature Centre is hosting Whooo’s Out There: An After the Dark Adventure on Saturday, February 18, 2023. After the sun sets on the Sanctuary, a whole new world emerges. Many Sanctuary residents prefer to walk the trails after dark. Join an Interpreter for a hike up the 4km trail and experience the Sanctuary like you've never seen it. Then on Monday, February 20 they are hosting a Family Day Snowshoe Quest. It’s a new adventure every time you attend Snowshoe Quest! Test your Snowshoe skills along the 1 km trail with games and an obstacle course.  

When: Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 6- 8 pm and Monday, February 20, 2023 at 2-4pm.  
Where: Kerry Wood Nature Centre
Cost: Saturday event: $15 per family. Pre-registration is required. Monday event: $3/person or $10/family  

2. Winterfest x The BIG JIG  

Winterfest x The Big Jig is Sylvan Lake's biggest winter festival of the year! Featuring an ice fishing derby with over $7,500+ in prizes, ice slides, skating, winter village lights, sleigh rides and so much more. Alberta Sports Hall of Fame will be there as well with snowshoes, and electric fat bikes. For winter rentals in Sylvan Lake, check out Sun Sport Rentals and Sylvan Ice Angling.

3. RED DEER REBELS GAME

Cheer on the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, February 17 as they take on the Kamloops Blazers. They also play the Medicine Hat Tigers on Monday, February 20. Both games start at 7:00 pm at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

4. GET INTO THE GROOVE: FAMILY DAY AT THE MAG!  

Join the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery on Family Day for their 1970's themed Birthday party! This year for Family Day we're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Red Deer and District Museum Society. Take a family selfie and participate in our ‘sketch party,’ dance to 1970’s disco music, and come dressed in your favourite 1970’s fashion! This #familyfriendly event is free to attend. All ages are welcome!

5. FAMILY DAY AT THE CRONQUIST HOUSE

Check out the Cronquist House on Family Day on Monday, February 20 from12pm till 5pm. Spend time with your family while enjoying delicious chili, desserts, hot chocolate and/or coffee!

When: Monday, February 20, 2023 from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

6. PARKLAND GARDEN CENTRE WINTER MARKET

Parkland Garden Centre is hosting a Winter Mini Market every Saturday in January and February from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

When: Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 10:00 am  
Where: Parkland Garden Centre is located 3 minutes East of 30th Avenue, Red Deer on Highway 11 East.

7. GASOLINE ALLEY FARMERS MARKET

Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market is a vibrant indoor market open year-round in Red Deer County that celebrates local producers, artisans, and farmers from Alberta. They are open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, they welcome you to meet local bakers, makers, growers, brewers, and crafters.

When: Fridays and Saturdays 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sundays, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

8. FAMILY DAY CELEBRATION AT PARKLAND MALL

Join the fun at Parkland Mall. Visit the Main Station on the day of the event to get your participation card. Complete the Scavenger Hunt and enter a draw for a chance to WIN a $400 Gift Basket. Enjoy FREE face painting, balloon twisting and fun Selfie station.

9. BACK TO THE 90S DJ PARTY AT CHILLABONGS  

Back to the 90' DJ Party at Chillabong’s Bar and Grill. Join them for a night of dancing & singing out loud to your favourite 90's hits.

10. FAMILY SNOW DAY AT SUNNYBROOK FARM MUSEUM  

The volunteers at Sunnybrook Farm Museum are hosting an afternoon of snow activities on Family Day. Children and adults alike can enjoy sliding down the hill by the pond (bring your own toboggan), sleigh rides with a team of Percheron horses, an outdoor marshmallow roast over a fire pit, and for a final warm-up move inside the historic Hanna Log House for some hot chocolate and cookies.
