Our 3rd outdoor feature takes us out onto our beautiful trails for a little cross-country skiing.

Our 3rd outdoor feature takes us out onto our beautiful trails for a little cross-country skiing. Here in Red Deer, we are fortunate to have several spacious areas perfect for your skiing experience.

The River Bend Golf and Recreation Area offers access to 19 km of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by the beautiful Red Deer River valley. This world-class spot was even featured during the Canada Winter Games held here in 2019. With 4 km of lighted trails for evening runs and ample space for those who might prefer to snowshoe. Cross-country ski rentals are typically available for both adults and children when there is enough snow, but should be confirmed before arrival.

Heritage Ranch is another wonderful area to try out your skiing skills. Just be aware that only a small area is designated for skiers the rest is considered multi-use; encounter runners, walkers, fat bikers and yes even a horse or two flying past you, it’s all part of the adventure!

Great Chief Park, Kiwanis Park and Barrett Park also have beautiful trails, offering no shortage of space for social distancing. The Parkland Cross Country Ski Club is a great resource for finding out the trail conditions, as their volunteers take great care of the trail grooming and track-setting from Great Chief Park to Heritage Ranch. Also, check out the City of Red Deer’s website for tips on everything from trail etiquette to ski trail maps.
