October 6 is known as Canadian Beer Day. A day dedicated to celebrating Canadian-made beer and those involved in all aspects of it’s production: from brewing, serving, delivering, and of course, drinking this beverage that is loved by millions across Alberta and the rest of Canada. Over 85% of beer purchased in Canada is made locally and here in central Alberta, we are fortunate to have many local breweries like Red Hart Brewing. Have you ever embarked on the Red Deer Ale Trail (map)? If not, you simply must check it out!

Why beer? Well, it’s simple - beer brings people together. Grab a companion and celebrate with a multitude of central Alberta brews to enjoy when you visit one of our local taprooms and restaurants. Stop by Troubled Monk for a Daycation lager, or perhaps a pint of the Commonwealth Belgian Blonde at Craft beer Commonwealth located in the Gasoline Alley Farmers ‘ Market is more your taste.

Support local producers when you enjoy a pint of Alberta pale Ale at Cilantro and Chive, or maybe relax on the patio at Bo’s Bar and Stage with a variety-clad flight. Chillabong’s Bar & Grill is always fun and nothing goes down better with cold beer than a plate of social bites to share.

Westlake Grill at Heritage Ranch has a wonderful selection of local Alberta craft beer; be sure to ask them about their rotating tap! If you are in the mood for carbs and beer (the perfect pairing, just sayin’) then head down to Anthony’s Pizza & Italian Kitchen or give Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria a try. Both are *chef’s kiss* so delicious!

Freshtival

Mark your calendars for Freshtival, a celebration of fresh hop beers, happening October 21 to the 24th at Craft Beer Commonwealth. Several beer producers across the province will come together to showcase super-fresh ingredients, including Alberta hops, to create truly fresh and unique Albertan beer. Live judging and first sampling takes place on October 21, with limited quantities available of these extremely rare brews until October 24. Get a taste while you can!

These are just a few ways you can enjoy, celebrate, and help brew a strong future for Canadian Beer right here in Red Deer, Alberta. Let's raise a glass (or pint) and honour those who continue to work to make the Canada's beer industry as great as it is today.

However you celebrate, be sure to do so responsibly.

Happy Canadian Beer Day!
