Earn your bragging rights on Canada’s longest golf hole.
Remember that time you got that hole-in-one and you couldn’t stop talking about it? Even though it was mini-golf, it was pretty amazing, but maybe it’s time you had a new golf story to brag about.
There’s a one-of-a-kind golf experience in Central Alberta and it’s just off the QE2 Highway north of Lacombe. Built on the grounds of a 75-year-old tree nursery, the appropriately named The Nursery Golf and Country Club has the distinction of having the longest hole in Canada. At 782 yards from the back tees, this behemoth is also one of the toughest par 6 holes in the nation.
As a novice golfer, I was a little nervous as I teed up my ball on the signature hole 11. The tee box is right next to a pond and once you get to the fairway, you have to shoot blind to get to the edge of the water that lies right in the middle of the fairway. Water always intimidates me, but then again trees are no picnic either. There are 41,000 trees lining the fairways of this course and I’d already lost two balls when I sliced off the tee.
If you’ve ever played golf, you know that it just takes one perfect shot to keep you coming back for more and for me that shot happened on The Nursery’s number 11. I wish I could say that I parred the hole, but I’ll need to work on my short game first. Be warned – once you play the longest hole in Canada, you’ll want to keep coming back to try to make par. No matter what your score, just tackling this incredible hole is something worth bragging about.
