Sylvan Lake is one of Alberta’s most-loved resort towns; there you can bask in the sun or skate on the lake – whatever the adventure may be, food will be a necessity.
Sylvan Lake continues to grow as an Alberta culinary hub. There is a plethora of amazing restaurants in town, creating a difficult decision-making process. If you’re looking to try something new or add a little extra flare to your Sylvan Lake experience, here are two local recommendations.
This little restaurant thrives on its quality and taste. It serves Korean infused meals with so much flavour – it will be love at first bite.
Lokal Kitchen is owned by three gentlemen, James, Chris and Gordon – who came into each others’ lives with a dream to own a one of a kind restaurant.
Lokal serves up a few signature Korean dishes such as Korean BBQ (short ribs, bulgogi beef, chicken, and pork), crispy chicken (their chef’s signature recipe), Shanghai seafood pasta, and bulgogi rice. The fusion comes from the fact that they have taken traditional Korean dishes and combined them with dishes from around the world. For example, there is the bulgogi burger, bulgogi poutine, bulgogi alfredo and bulgogi pasta. Other items such as the Lokal Burger, meatballs and steak sandwich have a unique sweet taste which is also where the fusion comes in. The Lokal Burger is not your typical Alberta burger. It’s an explosion of flavours that will leave you in a euphoric state.
The concept for the restaurant’s name came about with the idea of focusing on providing Korean fusion to local customers – thus Lokal was born.

Bamboo Hut is one of the best kept local secrets in Sylvan Lake. The style of food celebrates Southeast Asian cuisine – which includes Cambodian, Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese. From the ingredients used to the style of cooking, the different cultures are amazingly infused into the food.
The Sok family has always been deeply passionate about their food, and they enjoy sharing it with the community. They opened their first restaurant in 2006, and it has been an adventure since. So much so that it brought brothers Sophorn and Dany Sok to an appearance on The Food Network’s Chopped Canada. They battled it out in the end with Sophorn winning the final title.
“My experience with Chopped Canada was eye-opening and very rewarding. It challenged me and motivated me to be more creative. I learned that trying new things and being outside of my comfort zone can be challenging and tough, but ultimately, it is an opportunity to grow and become better.”Dany Sok - Owner/Operator, Bamboo Hut Southeast Asian Cuisine
