Join in the celebration of ice and snow as Sylvan Lake kicks off its signature Winter Festival this Family Day Long weekend. Take the kids out and get some fresh air as you stroll around the town taking in the all the sites and sounds of the Winter Festival. Here’s a few of the events to look forward to:
There’s a ton to do in Sylvan Lake theis Family Day long weekend you might not be able to fit all in. From 12:00P pMm – 3:00PM pm on Saturday February 13th on the east side of the pier there will be face painting, bean bag toss, dog sled races on crazy carpets, snow bowling, just to name a few of the cool things to do with your family.
Polar Bear Dip
What better excuse do you have to jump in the frigid waters of Sylvan Lake than the event’s signature Polar Bear Dip where participants do the unthinkable and take a dip in the lake for a charity of their choice.
You can participate in the Polar Bear Dip or just stand by and watch those brave people jump in a lake in the middle of winter.
After enjoying all the various events around the lake, pop by the Sylvan Lake cCommunity cCentre and check out the Farmer’s Market. ComeHead inside and warmer up with some lunch from the concession stands and browser the handcrafts goods from the number of vendors – who knows, you might find something you really like or something for that special someone, it’s is is Valentine’s Day weekend after all.
There’ll be lots of great vendors to browse through with items like unique crafts , baking, jams and jellies, preserves, frozen foods, meats, soaps & body products, kitchen products, art, clothing, candles, and so much more. Find out more about the Farmer’s Market here.
Sylvan Lake Ice Marathon
Strap your skates on tight and head down to the Eeast side of the Ppier. Enjoy a nice casual skate ofn the novice course which is a 2.5KM ice skating loop or speed things up a little bit and take part in the 5KM, 25KM or 100KM marathon. Watch the skaters and enjoy a hotdog from the event’s charity BBQ.
The grand finally starts at 7:00PM pm on Saturday. Fireworks from the pier will be launched from the pier along with synchronized music available on 88.7FM – pretty neat. Organizers request that people watching the spectacular display stay at least 500 meters back from the pier.
Join the town of Sylvan Lake this Family Day long weekend for a winter festival that is sure to please everyone in the family. Ice skating, a polar bear dip, activities for kids of all ages, a farmer’s market, and fireworks – who could ask for a more exciting weekend.
