1913 Days: Celebrate with Sylvan Lake

 Celebrate the birthday of one of Western Canada’s most popular resort towns, Sylvan Lake.

Join Sylvan Lake for 1913 Days June 10 – 15, 2016 to celebrate the 103rd birthday of this picturesque resort town less than 20 minutes outside of Red Deer, Alberta. You can expect community barbeques and garage sales, parades and street festivals, buskers, food trucks, and lots of outdoor fun!

Friday, June 10

This year’s celebration kicks off on Friday, June 10 with community events throughout the town. Enjoy community barbeques and fundraisers through the bustling streets of Sylvan Lake. Check out one of the city’s many mobile vendors or buskers along Lakeshore Drive. If you’re a deal hunter, there are plenty of opportunities to scope out a unique find. Garage sales are common throughout the town of Sylvan Lake during 1913 Days. Sift through the tables and bins – who knows what you might find!


Fresh air and local goodness awaits at the Sylvan Lake Farmers’ Market, open from 4 PM – 7:30 PM every Friday. Browse through the vendors and experience what it means to have farm fresh produce and meats truly. There’s also handicrafts and other homemade treats to explore. Located at the corner of 50th Street and 50th Avenue, you’ll find the Farmers’ Market in the north lot of the Railway Promenade.

Saturday, June 11

Rise and shine, the festivities start bright and early for 2016’s 1913 Days with a pancake breakfast. This year’s annual event also celebrates the unveiling of their new fire station, the Sylvan Lake Fire Department. Enjoy pancakes, sausages and loads of maple syrup while supporting the local volunteer-run fire department then take a tour of the new facility. The breakfast will be held at the corner of 50th Street and Beacon Hill from 7 AM – 11 AM. The official opening of the new Sylvan Lake Fire Station will be held after the pancake breakfast so make sure to stick around.


What would a celebration be without a parade? Check out the 1913 Days parade as it runs along 47 Ave, down Centennial Street, then along Lakeshore Drive. Cheer on the participants as they roll down the street in celebration of yet another year. See marching bands, police, firefighters and other community figures. The parade starts at 1 PM and takes about an hour to finish.

After the parade, Sylvan Lake will be closing down the streets for a festival. Walk the streets of Sylvan Lake and experience the sense of community and hospitality this small Central Alberta resort town has to offer. Tempt your taste buds and explore the food trucks and vendors during the street festival. Be inspired by the buskers and other community activities held during this time. There will be face painting, balloon art, a bouncy castle and everything else you might expect. The Street Festival kicks off at 2 PM.


Cap your evening off with a movie! Held in the Canadian Tire parking lot at 62 Thevenaz Industrial Trail at 10:30 PM – bring snacks, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a good old fashion drive-in movie with your family.

Sunday, June 12 and Monday, June 13

Sylvan Lake is an active and supportive community of people and it shows. With more community garage sales, barbeques, and fundraisers you’ll want to stick around and experience the town of Sylvan Lake.  Take a walk along Lakeshore Drive and experience all that Sylvan Lake has to offer, especially the beautiful views. Every year community involvement in 1913 Days is a bit different, making each year unique with new attractions.

Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15

New this year, Sylvan Lake will be turning into a full-fledged carnival for the last two days of the 1913 Days celebration. Experience the midway like you’ve never experienced it before, lakeside!

Feel the excitement and exhilaration of the midway rides or take in a unique view of Sylvan Lake from the Ferris wheel. Test your skill and accuracy at any of the classic midway games. Bring your appetite and discover all the tasty food offerings and other treats available during this year’s midway celebration during 1913 Days.


With so much jammed packed into five days, there’s plenty to see, eat, do and discover in Sylvan Lake during the 1913 Days celebration. From numerous community events including barbeques, fundraisers, and garage sales to the parade and much-anticipated street festival complete with food trucks, live entertainment, and buskers – 1913 Days is a fun weekend adventure in Central Alberta.
