Central Alberta is the ideal place to test your mettle and see what you’re really made of. In the process, you’ll find true adventure, have a fun time and feel a sense of accomplishment for stepping outside your comfort zone and challenging yourself. There’s something for nearly every age and fitness level.
The Woody’s RV World Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k takes place in May with runner racing through Red Deer’s famous park and trail system. You’ll experience scenic winding paths following along the majestic Red Deer River. With small race charm and big race benefits, our event has repeatedly been ranked among Alberta’s best races.
Get Down and Dirty
Red Deer is home to Mud Hero in August, Canada’s largest mud obstacle race. Held annually at Canyon Ski Resort, the 6 km course features more than 16 obstacles, mud, water and challenging terrain. Let your kids play in the mud in the children’s division of the race.
Calling all Superheroes
Put on a jet pack and soar up to 15 metres above Sylvan Lake on a flyboard. Invented in 2012, the flyboard is one crazy wild ride that will have you looking and feeling a little like Iron Man.
Can You Beat the Ranchtracker?
No matter how fast you run or how well you hide, Red Deer’s Ranchtracker at Heritage Ranch will find you. Outrunning a cowboy is never easy. Get dropped in the woods and see if you can beat the man in the saddle. Win or lose, you’ll get a steak dinner after the chase is over.
Walk on Water
Are You a Super Spartan?
Red Deer is home to Alberta’s only Super Spartan race featuring an 8 mile course with more than 24 obstacles and rugged terrain. If that sounds too intimidating, we also have a Sprint level Spartan race that is ideal for beginners at just over 3 miles in length and 20 obstacles. If you fail an obstacle, you have to complete 30 burpees before you can move on. Spartan races are held in the USA and other countries around the world and the competition is fierce in Canada. The 2015 Ultra Beast male and female World Champions are both Canadians.
