Red Deer is home to many an exciting and challenging obstacle course. This summer, several of them are making their return to the city and if you’ve ever wanted to test your physical limits out in the rugged Red Deer outdoors, there’s not a better time to register, train and start planning your summertime trip to Central Alberta.
For accommodations, the Best Western Red Deer Plus is always a great choice. It’s conveniently located to Parkland Mall and the downtown core but also a stone’s throw away from sports hotspots such as Westerner Park, Canyon Ski Resort, Sylvan Lake and the Dawe Community Centre. With the on-site boardroom, complimentary high speed internet access, fitness centre and complimentary hot breakfast, the Best Western is ideal for large parties of people and let’s be honest, you’re probably going to need all the help you can get so it’s best to seek strength in numbers.
Now that you’ve checked in and made yourself comfortable for the weekend, let’s get going. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
Spartan Red Deer
Over at Heritage Ranch, the grueling Spartan Race can take your entire weekend if you’re up for the challenge. There’s three races offered but the one you need to know the most about is The Spartan Super, which tests your endurance and perseverance through a 12+ kilometer run in challenging and rugged terrain full of obstacles against your peers. It’s going to test your toughness and the slower you go, the longer it’ll take so make sure you’re prepared.
5K Foam Fest Red Deer
The 5K Foam Fest is as whimsical and exciting as the title suggests. Picture an obstacle course drenched in 2.5 million cubic feet of foam, your obstacles including lily pads, a huge inflatable water slide, a tire step, a mud crawl, multiple Slip ‘n Slides (how could they not?), a tube crawl and plenty of foam and water that’ll have you struggling to get to the finish line. But the real reward with Foam Fest is in the fun you’ll get to have along the way.
Mud Hero Alberta
Not afraid of a little mud? You’ll encounter plenty of it at Mud Hero Alberta, considered to be the country’s largest obstacle course. How large? We’re talking 18 obstacles and 6 kilometres at Canyon Ski Resort. It’s large enough to demand a 10,000 watt after-party. One of the obstacles is called the World’s Most Epic Mud Pit. This is not for the faint of heart – tread lightly!
Regardless what obstacle course you find yourself going with, you’ll have plenty of fun during a weekend of testing your toughness in Red Deer this summer!
