Agriculture Country

Red Deer is one of Alberta`s most important agricultural regions and getting back to the farm is a big part of the fun for visitors. With more than 9,100farms in the region, Central Alberta has agriculture at its backbone. Visitors to Red Deer area find friendly western hospitality, farm fresh food, and remarkable rural activities to enjoy.

Fun on the Farm

Getting back to the farm is easy in Red Deer region where farms and agri-tourism ventures are both abundant. Visitors can get lost at Alberta`s only sunflower maze, enjoy a wagon ride, a corn maze, a petting zoo and other activities at a Jungle Farm, or enjoy a 15-acre corn maze and many other activities at the Kraay Family Farm.

Farmer`s Markets

The happiest place to be on a Saturday morning is the Red Deer Market, a farmer`s market that has been going strong for more than 40 years. Central Alberta`s farming community is incredibly diverse and the market does over $2 million in business in the 100 hours they are open annually. And every town and village in the region also has a market, so you can find a farmer`s market almost any day of the week.

From the Farm Gate

It started when five farm families decided to work together instead of competing with each other. The mindset of the Innisfail Grower`s Cooperative  proved so successful that it has spread throughout Central Alberta. Alberta farms have banded together with great events like the Asparagus Festival and the twice annual Country Drive and opened their doors to visitors who want to buy their products right from the farm gate.

Bring This Story to Life
