Join galleries in downtown Red Deer on the first Friday of every month to celebrate local, regional, and national artistic talent. The galleries buzz with art experiences, open galley spaces, and social mingling. If you’re lucky enough, sometimes there is even live music! This once a month event is suitable for adults, youth, families, date nights, music lovers, culture-vulters and anyone who enjoys kicking off their weekend with a Friday night party. First Friday Red Deer is becoming a staple in the local culture diet.

Kerry Wood Nature Centre

Bike Tour – 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
$3/person or $10/family

Explore Red Deer’s Waskasoo Park bike trails with an experienced bike guide. Meeting spot is at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre.

Rock’ N Red Deer

Taking place all weekend

Cars, music, and culture! Travel back in time with over 850 hot rods, customs, and classics from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s on display to the public and live music. Event highlights include the day cruises, Friday night “Cruise In” in downtown Red Deer, and public displays at Westerner Park.

 

Saturday

The Market @ Red Deer

Every Saturday – 8:00 am to 12:30 pm

The Market @ Red Deer has proven to be one of the backbones of Red Deer’s community. Visit every Saturday morning and take a peek at all the local produce, handmade wares, and delicious treats.

Discovery Wildlife Park Zoofest

This annual event is held on the Saturday of the August long weekend every year. New this year is a public market! Come and enjoy the day with a free pancake breakfast, free face-painting, and activities for the whole family. All regular presentations will be on, so bring everyone out for an awesome family day.

Kerry Wood Nature Centre

Meet the Critters – 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
$3/person or $10/family

Join a educational and fun program hosted by a Kerry Wood interpreter where you can meet the Centre’s tiger salamanders and plains garter snake.

Hlinka-Gretzky Cup

Pre competition game Team Canada vs Team Czech Republic – 7:00 pm

The 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup will be played in Red Deer and Edmonton with teams from eight different countries will compete. This event serves as the most heavily scouted event for NHL teams in preparation for the season’s draft.

Celebrate Métis culture this Heritage Day! Join the MAG for bannock, family friendly crafts, live music, and a jigging lesson.

Hlinka-Gretzky Cup

Monday

Pack a picnic lunch and stop by one of the many public picnic spots or shelters in Red Deer.

Bower Ponds offers a variety of recreational opportunities and a large playground with a view of the river. Stop by the Pavilion that is equipped with a cafe, board games room, washrooms, and equipment rentals such as paddle boats and water balls!

Discovery Canyon Park is located in the River Bend Golf and Recreation Area and is one of Red Deer’s most popular water features. This free play area features natural river fed bubbling pools of water, a lazy river, a wading pool, accessible beach and boardwalk, picnic spots, concessions, bathrooms, and tube rentals! Kids can also enjoy a nature themed playground.
