What’s Happening this Weekend August 27-29

It’s the last weekend of August, and the end of summer is approaching. Let’s spend this last weekend getting out and about experiencing the wonderful things we have here at Tourism Red Deer. 

Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market is having its official Grand Opening Celebration this weekend Friday-Sunday. Three fun-filled days with outside games. vendors, music, bouncy castle and more. Make sure you come on down and join the celebrations. 

It’s the last weekend for Bard on Bower, so why not head down to Bower Ponds for two great comedies Much Ado About Nothing Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm and a Comedy of Errors Sunday at 1:00 pm. It is Shakespeare at its finest, just don’t forget to bring a chair or blanket. 

Capstone’s OpenArt will keep you busy and entertained this weekend, with the various activities planned, from creating art, to live performances. 

Head down to the Lacombe Farmers market this Friday and learn about history from  The Lacombe & District Historical Society. Check out the live heritage demos with their costumed historical interpreters while supporting our local vendors. 

Red Deer Shelter Ribfest 2021 is back August 27-29 at the Westerner Park NW Parking lot, only this year it is a drive-thru event. Four of the best rib trucks from across Canada will be cooking up some of the best mouth-watering barbecued smoked ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket you’ve ever had and much more! 

If you haven’t been to Discovery Wildlife Park this weekend might be a perfect time. With the cooler temperatures, the animals are more active and you have to love those baby bears, always up to something.

Fort Normandeau is hosting an Indigenous & Metis Film Night this Saturday at 6:30 pm. Join them for a thoughtful presentation of films created from, by, and of Indigenous and Metis filmmakers and their stories, pre-registration is required by Friday at 4:30 pm and the cost is $15 per person. 

The Alberta Praire Railway Excursions still have openings this weekend for their Spare Rib Special and Ribs Dinner Special this Saturday and Sunday. You might even have a run-in with the Pump car bandits as you travel by train to their Country Hideaway. 

Looking for some live music this weekend then check out Bo’s Bar and Stage for Bo’s Summerset featuring Whale and the Wolf & Sparrow Blue this Saturday, doors open at 6:00 pm and the music starts at 8:00 tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.   

Also, Little Red Barn will be featuring their live music Fridays with Paeton Cameron performing from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The cover charge is $5, and those 12 and under are free. In the Neighbourhood Concert Series will also be featuring free concerts with Matt Blais this Friday at the Joseph Welsh School(Eastview) and Curtis Labelle at Riverside Meadows Block Party  Saturday at 2:00 pm.
