This weekend, many fun things are happening, from Open Farm Days to Bard on Bower (Shakespeare in the park). Make sure you grab your friends or family and check out these fantastic events as you experience the colours of Central Alberta exploring Red Deer’s Backyard.

Bard on Bower returns with two great comedies, Much Ado About Nothing and The Comedy of Errors, held at the Bower Ponds main Stage on August 12-29th. It’s free; however, they welcome cash donations at the mainstage shows, which go directly towards covering a small portion of the expenses not covered by their fundraising.

Open Farm Days are happening all over Alberta this weekend, August 14-15. Take the time to visit the various farms like DNA Gardens, where you can take a wine tour and tasting, hike the trails, or perhaps partake in the Ultimate Pancake Breakfast on Sunday. If you would like to check out the various brewery places like Troubled Monk, they will be providing information sessions on brewing and what goes into making beer.

Alberta on a Plate is back for its third week with the 2021 Dine-Around festival on August 06-15. It’s their last weekend, so if you haven’t already tried the Festival menu at some of our local favourites like Cilantro and Chive, Bo’s Bar & Stage or Gasoline Farmers Market, then make sure you do so delicious.

Gather up your Teddy Bears and Head off to The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame this Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Your family and their bears will be entertained with organized games, crafts, and activities. At the end of the event, leave your teddy bear behind for a sleepover. Then return the next day to pick them up and see what type of mischief they got into. Ellis Bird Farm has its Annual Bug Jamboree this Saturday, August 14, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Special guests and activities include Butterfly walks, scavenger hunts, music and more. There will be lots of activities for all ages to enjoy so come on down. Please note that some events require registration, and you can do that by going to their website.

Pioneer Days are happening at Sunnybrook farm Museum Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Join in the fun with a Pioneer breakfast, tractor parade, children’s activities and much more. The cost is $15 per family or $5 per person.

Come on down to the Laft Hus at Heritage Square and play some outdoor activities, hear some fun folklore stories, and do some folklore-related crafts Saturday, August 14, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Stories will be read hourly, with crafts and games happening as well.

Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions are back on track, and this weekend is their season opener. There have been a few changes, like The Broken Rail Saloon and Rusty Spike Bar as a new Country Hideaway destination, and hayrides are one of the many activities offered. Saturday is sold out, but there are a few spots left this Sunday, August 15.

Looking for some live entertainment, check out Bos’ Bar and Stage, where Beatcrown Canada presents Miami Nights vol XII with Canada’s # 1 Latin DJ WACHO this Saturday from 9:00 pm till 1:00 am. Purchase tickets through Eventbrite or at the door. Also, Little Red Barn will be featuring their live music Fridays with Ryan Carnduff performing from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The cover charge is $5, and those 12 and under are free.
