The weekend is upon us, and now is the time to check out some of the great things happening.
Starting Friday, October 2-3, Spartan is taking over Heritage Ranch for the Hurricane Heat, a team-based adventure challenge that trades course distance over time. There are still a few spots left; you can register by going to Red Deer Spartan Hurricane Weekend
It’s First Friday and time to head downtown and join the galleries in celebrating our local, regional and national artistic talent. There will be an opening reception titled Nature’s Bounty with artist Lynn LeCorre from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Velvet Olive Lounge. Live music will follow with Mike Szabo from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, limited seating, first-come, first seated. At the A+ Art Gallery & Unique Collections, they will be featuring a Strange & Unusual Things Art Exhibition with the artists in attendance from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This exhibition will be showing from October 2 -30, so make sure you don’t miss out.
Ready for some local baking, why not head down to Solorzano Spa Café & Wine Bar for Coffee Tasting and a Fall Bake Sale this Saturday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They will be doing coffee tastings from White Frog Café and pairing it with delicious chocolate from Corazon chocolates. Their Fall bake sale will have everything from Pies to Cookies; this is an outdoor event.
Déjà vu Kids Sale and Market is happening this Saturday, October 3, at the Westerner Park Prairie Pavilion from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. If you work with kids, have kids, or expect a new baby, this is the one-stop-shop you can’t afford to miss.
Have you been to Fort Normandeau lately? If not, this is the weekend to go. They will have two workshops, a Pickling Workshop Saturday, October 3, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and a Fire Starting & Open Flame Cooking Workshop on Sunday, October 4, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Pre-Registration for the Pickling is required by October 1 and for the Fire Starting October 2. A limited number of spaces are available.

Red Deerians, keep your eyes peeled for the annual Charity Checkstop happening from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Saturday, October 3 on Taylor Drive (North of 32 Street, South of 43 Street). The Charity Checkstop is an annual fundraising event for the Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre and the Coats 4 Kids campaign.
