Bring on the weekend and bring on the month of May! Plans for a warmer weekend may have been put on pause according to the forecast, but wait 5 minutes, it is Alberta… things could change, and we would want you prepared. Whether this weekend or next there are plenty of activities to keep you and the family entertained while enjoying the outdoors. Here are a few ideas to get your weekend plans rolling as you #ExploreRedDeersBackyard.
Discovery Wildlife Park officially opens their doors on Saturday, May 1st a fun way to spend the day. Enjoy their beautiful spacious park, take in an animal presentation or animal experience, and make sure to check out Piper and Bos the baby bears, they are adorable and quite entertaining.
Central Alberta is home to some incredible trails just waiting to be explored Red Deer, Red Deer County, Lacombe and Stettler are a few locations to start. Whether biking, walking or hiking you might be surprised at the scenery and wildlife you could experience (please use caution as mamas can be extra protective this time of year).
How does a Sasquatch Hunt sound? Do not let fear or skepticism stand in your way, you are in for an exciting experience at Heritage Ranch. Sasquatch research kit and a series of interactive clues included. Swap close-call stories over a Bigfoot Burger dinner on the scenic West Lake patio afterwards or order to go, with all that searching you will have worked up a BIG appetite.
Perhaps a little equine connection is what you need to reconnect with nature. Make the short drive south to the beautiful Caroline area and hit the trails with Ram Rides, they will be offering trail and day rides at their home ranch this weekend. Give them a call to see if you can join 1(403) 844-0408. They also offer numerous camps and experiences for all ages, think about renting a cabin for a true rustic outdoor adventure and make this your home base as you explore the area.
Maybe staying home and enjoying your own backyard is in the cards, why not amp up your gardening game and create an outdoor space your neighbours will gossip about. Stop in at Parkland Nurseries & Garden Centre or Peavey Mart for all your gardening needs.
How about a round of golf at The Nursery Golf and Country Club? 18 holes or 9, the choice is yours, they also have availability in their RV park, why not turn your round of golf into a camping staycation and take in another round or two the next day.
The Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market patio is now open and the perfect space for sipping a patio pint from Craft Beer Commonwealth. If you’re hungry or just need a snack then pair that pint with some delicious tacos from Taco Monster you won’t be disappointed.
Do not forget about your furry friend’s need to explore, they too will want to get in on the action this weekend. Start with a trip to one of Red Deer’s amazing Off-Leash Dog Parks like Three Mile Bend or Oxbows for some fun and exercise. You will both have worked up a thirst so drop by Red Hart or Troubled Monk for a cold one, their patios are dog friendly and will offer your pooch an ice-cold bowl of water.
These are just a few ways you can add some fun to your weekend (or any day)!
