Things To Do for Father’s Day

Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

Central Alberta is a wonderful place to celebrate Father’s Day and what better way to let dad know how special he is than the gift of time. From brunch at his favourite restaurant like Chillabong’s Bar & Grill to biking along the fabulous Waskasoo Park Trails of Red Deer or play a free game of Disc Golf. With so many things to see and do, the best part will be sharing the experiences of the day, Happy Father’s Day!

The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is now open and guess what? On Father’s Day, your dad’s admission is FREE! Enjoy a little friendly competition and faceoff to a game of bubble hockey, shoot a few hoops or challenge dad to a wheelchair race, when halftime rolls around be sure to check out their fantastic exhibits and snap a photo together in the Pressbox.

Afterwards, head over to Heritage Ranch, they are hosting a Father’s Day brunch with free entertainment by Memphis Mafia live on the River Deck. If your dad is into horses, JKL Trail Rides now offers trail rides from Heritage Ranch, so saddle up! Or perhaps a Sasquatch Adventure is more your dad’s speed? Then you’re in luck, they offer those too.

Maybe a round of golf at The Nursery Golf and Country Club sounds ideal; did you know they have the longest hole in Canada? Or tee up at Whispering Pines Golf and Country Club Resort situated on the banks of Pine Lake. How about a lighthearted game at the 9-hole Pitch n Putt at Great Chief Park? Admission is by donation, and you could pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the Kiwanis Picnic site nearby.

Bake a homemade pie for your dad, (with a little help from) The Jungle Farm, now offering Pie-Making Kits which include pastry, apples, spice bag, label for baking, pie plate, pie storage bag and instructional video. So simple even a young child can have success making a 6-inch apple pie. Pie-Making Kits can be ordered anytime throughout the year.

Fishing is always popular with dads and Red Deer offers a variety of fishing experiences from the banks of the Red Deer River to the Waskasoo Park Trails System where you can enjoy local fishing holes; Mitchell Pond, Bower Ponds and Three-Mile Bend. Venture outside of the city to visit Sylvan Lake, they boast some of the best fishing in Alberta.

DNA Gardens near Elnora is another delightful outing your dad would enjoy. They serve up an Ultimate Pancake Breakfast on Sundays and Wine Tasting Tours take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting June 18.

If your dad seeks adventure, then Air-ristocrat Balloon Rides will be right up his alley. Imagine the views to be seen and the memories to be made. They will even launch right from his property if there is enough space.

How about celebrating Father’s Day with a trip to one of his favourite breweries like Troubled Monk for a Daycation Lager, or perhaps a jaunt to Red Hart Brewing for a fresh pint and a side of tacos from Taco Monster, on-site for Father’s Day.

Delight your Dad with a Fantastic Father’s Day stroll through Canada 150 Square in Capstone. Enjoy live street performances, streetside chalk art and more all while checking out the features of this upcoming neighbourhood.

If you are looking for some great gift ideas then how about the Father’s Day Meal Box from Bo’s Bar and Stage or head over to Peavy Mart, dad could always use something for the yard or garage.

Maybe a quiet day at home with his feet up, is just what the doctor ordered. If that’s the case, then pick up some delicious take-out from places like Anthony’s Pizza & Italian Kitchen and a six-pack of dad’s favourite from Craft Beer Commonwealth.
