It’s May long weekend and time for us to explore the fun things we can do here in #RedDeersBackyard.
For you bird lovers, Ellis Bird Farm is opening Victoria Day Monday, May 24, stroll the trails, take in the world’s largest outdoor collection of bluebird boxes or take a tour out to their bluebird trail.
Camping is always top of mind on May long weekend. We are sure you already have your spot booked at places like Discovery Wildlife Park Campground, Trenville Park or maybe Westerner Campground. If not why not give Ram Rides (South Ram Outfitters) north of Rocky Mountain House a shout they still have campsites available.
The Outdoor Market at Red Deer next to the Servus Arena is officially open this Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. See what vendors are there and enjoy the outdoor shopping, you never know what treasures you may find. Remember all Covid-19 rules apply and they ask that people adhere to the 6-foot distancing rule and to wear masks.
Hit the trails, whether on foot or wheels and seek out some wildlife. There are plenty of baby geese scurrying about, so just remember to give them their space.
Head out to Wilderness Village Resort and take in a trail ride adventure with JKL Trail Rides and for the kiddies, their Petting Zoo is now open. Did you know they also lead the Trail and Pony rides at Heritage Ranch?
Take a country drive to nearby communities like Innisfail, Stettler, Lacombe or Sylvan Lake. Take a walk along their lovely trails, grab some takeout from any of their restaurants or grab a coffee and enjoy some fresh air.
Get out on the water, SunSport Recreation in Sylvan Lake can help, they offer everything from Paddle Boats to Kayaks and Speed Boats to Seadoos. Mountain Surf Co has a great selection of Standup Paddleboards just waiting to float you away in the ponds at Three Mile Bend Recreation Area.
Heritage Ranch is the place to start a Sasquatch Hunt, ticket price includes a research kit and a series of interactive clues. You can pair your pursuit with a delicious burger meal to take home, the makings for a perfect day of adventure.
Head out to Edgar Farms for some fresh asparagus, it is harvested and ready for the barbecue. Their store will be open on the holiday Monday. Along with your asparagus, fill your basket with hand-made preserves, frozen fruit and meat pies and other seasonal goodies.
These are just a few Things To Do this holiday weekend, so get out of the house, support local businesses and enjoy! If you have any questions regarding Covid-19 guidelines please follow this link to find the latest regarding Alberta’s Enhanced Public Health Measures.
