Stephansson House Provincial Historic Site is hosting its 16th annual Poetry at Stephan’s House, on Sunday, July 21 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Born in Iceland, Stephan G. Stephansson and his family settled in the Markerville area in 1889. Widely regarded as the greatest Icelandic poet since the Middle Ages, Stephan G. Stephansson is best known for Andvokur, or “Wakeful Nights,” a 6-volume set of poetry.
Visitors and participants will enjoy the Icelandic tradition of writing poetry at a social event. There will be poetry readings by a number of local and area poets. They will collaborate on an illustrated saga with other attendees, as well as experiment with magnetic poetry, enjoy baked goods and beverages, and visit the historic house restored to its 1927 appearance.
This year’s theme is “home.”
Regular admission rates apply.
