The Red Deer Public Library presents the a one hour YouTube premiere of the evolving creative world of multifaceted, award-winning maker and Red Deer resident, Matt Gould. In a career that has spanned more than forty years and encompassed drawing, painting, textile, play writing, theatre direction, performance, activism, film studies, teaching and design, the evolution towards the marrying of all of the above was inevitable. Over the past 7 months, Gould has migrated towards work that reflects his thoughts and feelings about the world he lives in and has inspired in him a response to that world in a way that has been hinted at in previous series, but never directly engaged. “Paint, plaster, puppets and politics” is a new multi-stage, multi-pronged creative project that will take his work and mode of expression to a new level. In this presentation of “Meet the Artist,” Matt will discuss his process and progress, as well as introduce you to the world of the freshly-formed Red Deer Puppetry Collective, the umbrella under which this collaborative project is being created. The recorded presentation will also be available on the library’s YouTube channel for later viewing and on the Red Deer Arts Council website during the last weekend of September.
