4th Annual Afro-Caribbean Festival – Central Alberta

August 15 @ 12:00 pm - August 16 @ 6:00 pm
Colorful scene from the 4th Annual Afro-Caribbean Festival in Red Deer, Alberta, featuring traditional dance, music, and cultural displays.

The Afro-Caribbean Festival has grown from a small cultural gathering into one of Central Alberta’s most vibrant street celebrations, and it’s free and built to bring the whole community together. Presented by the African Caribbean Centre of Central Alberta, the 4th Annual festival returns to Ross Street in downtown Red Deer on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, 2026, spilling into the City Hall Garden and a dedicated Kids’ Zone. This year’s theme: Many Roots, One Vibe.

Saturday opens with a wave of colour and sound: a Grand Opening Ceremony, a parade of flags, dazzling heritage costumes, heritage dances, and a drum circle that pulls people in from every direction. Food vendors serve flavours from across Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond, while the Kids’ Zone keeps younger visitors busy all day. Sunday carries the celebration forward with cultural showcases, a fashion show of African and Caribbean styles, singers, dancers, and live performances.

What makes the festival more than a party is what’s underneath it. It exists to reduce isolation, support mental wellness, and create belonging, and because it’s free and barrier-free, it welcomes newcomers, elders, youth, and people with disabilities who are too often priced out of ticketed events. It pays its performers, gives small businesses a platform, and brings people of every background together. One organizer still remembers an attendee who saw the flag of their home country during the Grand Opening and said they never imagined witnessing something like this in Red Deer.

Free admission. Family-friendly. Open to all. On-site security, RCMP, and Peace Officers keep the grounds safe and welcoming throughout the weekend.
