There’s so much fun to be had in Central Alberta this month! Here’s our list of events, happenings and things to do in Red Deer in March 2020.

St Patrick’s Day – March 17

Whether you are of Irish heritage or not, St Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide with green beer, lively music, Irish food and of course who could forget shamrocks for good luck. In Red Deer why not get into the spirit of the day by heading down to one of our local pubs like East 40th Pub or The Toad N Turtle for a pint of beer and some great entertainment.

For those who want to start the festivities off early join the Saint Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl at The Vat Saturday, March 14 at 3:30 pm. They will bus you to 4 bars in and around Red Deer in style, complete with games, 50/50 cash give away and a silent auction. Purchase Tickets online via Eventbrite.

There is also an Irish cultural night featuring Sharon Shannon & Guests happening March 10 at Bo’s Bar and Stage. Tickets can be purchased directly from The Irish Cultural Society of Central Alberta or online through Eventbrite.

International Whisky Day – On March 27

Gather at one of the many bars and lounges here in Red Deer to celebrate International Whiskey Day. For the adventurous, you might want to try a “Home from the Sea” a blended Islay Whisky cocktail at Occam’s Razor, or how about a Whisky Sour at The Velvet Olive. Anyone for a wee dram of Scotch or maybe a shot of Jameson’s Whisky? JB’s Lounge at The Black Knight Inn is a great place to sip and relax.

Take a Walk in The Park Day – March 30

Red Deer’s beautiful parks and natural green spaces are well known throughout Alberta. With over 100 km of easily accessible, paved, walking, and hiking trails connecting park users to beautiful green areas and park attractions like Bower Ponds Recreation. A great place to take a walk with beautiful ponds, great trails and a pavilion for that oh so needed bathroom break or maybe a cup of hot chocolate. Get into nature without leaving the city, Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary has over 5 kilometres of trails, and is the perfect place to spot wildlife. McKenzie Trails Recreation Area is another wonderful place featuring some of the oldest trees in the Waskasoo Park Trails System.


Central Alberta’s largest spring home show! Indoor and outdoor living, construction, landscaping, gardening, and more is back March 6 – 8. We hope that you will join us again for the Red Deer Home Show at Westerner Park, where there is something for everyone! Tickets are $12 General, Seniors (60+) $10 and children under 12 free.

For those who enjoy art and culture, join the galleries in downtown Red Deer for their First Friday, March 6th, and happening every month. This is the day where we can celebrate local, regional and national artistic talent. The galleries buzz with art experiences, open gallery spaces, social mingling and maybe some entertainment. Suitable for adults, youth, families, date nights, music lovers, culture-vultures and anyone who enjoys kicking off their weekend with a Friday night party. It’s all free and you can check out the Red Deer Arts Council for a list of the exciting events.

St Francis of Assisi Middle School presents the production of The Little Mermaid JR a stage musical, Friday, March 7 at the Red Deer Memorial Centre. Tickets are $10 and are available at the school or at the door.

Canadian rockers The Glorious Sons will be performing at Westerner Park Centrium Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 pm. This tour showcases their latest album release A War on Everything. Tickets can be purchased at the Tickets Alberta box office or online.

The Snowed in Comedy Tour has turned into a Canadian success story, celebrating its twelfth year. It’s back again at the Memorial Centre, March 13, with comedians Erica Sigurdson, Pete Zedlacher, Dan Quinn and Paul Myrehaug. Tickets can be purchased through the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

Bull Skit Comedy presents BullProv March 13 at 8:00 pm, to be followed by Late Night at 10:00 pm. This is improv at its best, you can take in one show or both if staying up late is no problem. If you’re busy that weekend, but still want to take in some great improv catch the Bull Skit Sketch Show March 27 – 28. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door checkout.

Taboo Naughty but Nice Show is back at the Stockmen’s Pavilion Westerner Park, March 13 – 15. Enjoy entertainment, provocative and educational seminars, unique shopping, fashion shows and LIVE demonstrations. This is an 18+ event, government issued photo I.D. is required. Tickets can be purchased online.

If theatre is your thing, Fully Committed is playing at the Nickel Studio at the Memorial Centre March 13 – 28 (Friday to Sunday performances only). This devastatingly funny one act follows a day in the life of Sam Peliczowski, an out-of-work actor who mans the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan’s number-one restaurant. A most entertaining production with forty wildly diverse characters designed to be played by a single versatile performer. He’s back, Fred Penner for his 40th Anniversary Tour, March 15 at the Memorial Centre. A gentle giant with an undeniable ability to make you feel good about yourself, this musical master brings 40+ years of commitment, consistency and depth to a career that blends the many genres of performing and communication. Tickets can be purchased through the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

Experience the music of ABBA like never before, with world-renowned ABBA Tribute ‘ABRA Cadabra’ coming to The Red Deer Memorial Centre on March 18. Featuring a live band and powerful vocals, this all-ages, interactive stage show will have you dancing and singing along to hits such as Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, Take A Chance, SOS, Waterloo & many more! Tickets can be purchased through the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

Come on down to the Memorial Centre to listen to some great blues music with Colin James Blues Trio Friday, March 20 at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased through the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

Central Alberta Family Expo is back again at the Parkland Pavilion at Westerner Park March 21 – 22. This is a fun family trade show with activities, special guests, petting zoo, local businesses, contests, scavenger hunts and so much more for the whole family to enjoy together. Get your pictures taken with members of the 501st & Rebel Legion, worldwide Star Wars costuming club. Tickets are available at the door. Adults $10.00 and kids 14 and under are free.
