You’ve practiced your stand-up air drums long enough now – it’s time to show off your impeccable technique at a real live show this weekend. Here are three great places to rock your socks off in Red Deer.
Funky beats at The Vat
Consistently voted Red Deer’s #1 live music venue (for like 13 years now), The Vat Pub has live music every weekend and their very own Vat beer. The venue is funky, charming, friendly and one of the best places in the city to see live rock, blues and reggae. Wednesday is singer/songwriter open mic and Sunday is jam night – so tune up your 12-string. And according to one reviewer, the musically minded should search the walls for “decorative cues”… intriguing.
Wings and cool country at The Hideout
The Hideout claims to have the city’s very best wings, but we’ll just be the judge of that, thank you very much – bring on the buckets! And while you are chowing down on pound after pound of the best messy-finger eats, groove to country, folk, Celtic and alt-country beats. Check the Hideout’s Facebook page for upcoming acts, like death-country band Elliot Brood and Canadian folk hero Valdy this month.
Intimate fine dining and jazz
Maybe you are on the lookout for somewhere to debut that new black turtleneck… and dare you sport the matching beret? Well, if you do, you’ll definitely turn heads at One Eleven Grill’s live jazz weekends (Friday and Saturday nights). Dine on fancy appies, like drunken mussels, before you dig into the blueberry BBQ ribs. This is a cool intimate date type place – but maybe if you haven’t it locked it down yet, ditch the beret.
