Red Deer’s Arts & Culture Scene

Red Deer Arts and Culture

Music is Life

Music soothes the human soul and ignites our passions and creativity. It is a vehicle of expression and at its very best, it is an art form. Plato wrote, “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

We celebrate music in all its forms. Red Deer has an enthusiastic community band society and there are five adult community concert bands that are active from September through May playing everything from classical to jazz-rock, funk, and Latin music.

Central Alberta’s only Marching Show Band

In the summer months, the Red Deer Royals perform traditional and contemporary music in concert, parade and field show settings.  This award-winning marching band is made up of young band members representing more than 20 schools throughout the region and an adult band that have delighted crowds locally and internationally.

Red Deer Legion Pipe Band

Formed in 1948, the Red Deer Legion Pipe Band has been active on the national and international competition circuit since 1983. Their wonderful piping and drumming performances have been enjoyed locally and by audiences around the world where they have represented our city.

Red Deer Symphony Orchestra

Nationally recognized quality symphonic music has been at the core of a vibrant arts and culture scene in Central Alberta thanks to the talents and efforts of the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra (RDSO).  Regular performances team the professional orchestra with featured guest performers and choirs for a thrilling and diverse season of professional concert music. The RDSO also works to foster an appreciation for symphonic music in this region through creative programming, education and outreach, and community partnerships that have connected professional musicians with thousands of area children.
