1. River Bend Golf and Recreation Area
The natural themed playground is fun for all ages. A smaller toddler area for the younger kids and challenging monkey bars for the older kids. Play at the park, walk the beautiful surrounding trails, or have a picnic, Discovery Canyon Playground and Picnic Area is a great place to spend an afternoon.
2. Evergreen Community Playground
A recent addition to Red Deer’s recreational landscape, Evergreen boasts a sprawling new slide and ample natural spaces where children can frolic and explore. Nestled on the outskirts of the city, the playground offers picturesque vistas of farmland, complemented by its proximity to a serene wetland and pond area, complete with a charming walking lookout bridge.
3. Parkland C.L.A.S.S. Playground
The playground features a unique advanced ramp system. Its design is particularly beneficial for children with mobility challenges, including those in wheelchairs or with unsteady gaits, facilitating their active participation in play. Younger children will love exploring the ramps, slides, and bridges, while older kids will find ample space for engaging in games such as tag and lava.
4. Gateway Christian School Playground
This is a hidden gem of a playground. Two long zip lines, cool disk swings, and very large climbing structures. It’s particularly great for kids in wheelchairs or are unsteady on their feet as they can get right in amongst the play. Young kids will adore the ramps, slides and bridges and older kids will find this playground perfect for playing tag and lava games. There are three playgrounds, one on each side of the school, and another accessible to the north.
5. Mattie McCullough Elementary School Playground
This public school playground is barrier free so has fantastic accessibility and sits within a large green space with basketball courts and soccer fields. The playground boasts walkways which are easily managed by wheelchairs and tons of fun for smaller children. Three ziplines round out the excitement at this park.
6. Rotary Picnic Park
A Red Deer Classic! This park has been a staple in the community for years! A rubber-surfaced playground, numerous picnic tables and firepits as well as washroom facilities mean you can spend the whole afternoon. There is also a picnic shelter that can be rented for larger gatherings. Get a splendid view of the city and the ‘green onion’ from atop Piper “Mountain.”
7. Bower Ponds Playground
Situated at the picturesque Bower Ponds, this fantastic playground has all the kids’ favorites: slides, swings, climbing towers, music stations and all on a rubber surface! There are big kid and small kid sections all surrounded by picnic tables and shelters for shade.
8. Central Middle School Playground
A great playground for the 7+ crowd! There are lots of parkour style apparatus’ on a woodchip surface surrounded by soccer fields and basketball courts.
9. Bower Community Playground
The newly updated playground is located at the Bower Community Centre and is a great space for community members (and visitors) to spend time playing at the new playground apparatuses that includes slides, ziplines and spinners. There is also a small hill for sledding in the winter and basketball courts.
10. West Park Middle School Playground
Another great middle school playground. Located at West Park Middle School, which also happens to be the home of Red Deer Minor Baseball, this playground is usually a flurry of activity with baseball games going on most evenings and weekends. The wood chip surfaced playground has climbing apparatus’, accessible ramps and plenty of monkey bars!
