Welcome Home: Westerner Park and the Central Alberta Home Show

Red Deer Home Show

All this year, Westerner Park’s 125th, we’ve been reflecting on enduring partnerships and celebrating them with our readers. One of our long-standing collaborators, the Canadian Home Builders Association – Central Alberta, hosts the Red Deer Home Show. We sat down with CHBA’s event coordinator, Joan Fahey, to talk about the 38th annual show coming up in the spring.

Spring homecoming

From March 10th to 12th, 2017, Westerner Park will welcome home the 38th annual Red Deer Home Show. The show brings together award-winning builders, products, ideas and décor – plus 11,000 visitors from all over the region.

What’s on show?

Visitors will find the latest technology in building, renovations, landscaping and decorating ideas – and do-it-yourselfers gather inspiration and tips for renovating, redecorating and even building their own home. Plus everything else besides, Joan adds “decking, countertops, bathroom reno, LED lights and even mortgages”.

Growing together

Joan notes that the Home Show has grown with the park over the past 37 years – the first few were at Westerner’s previous smaller downtown location. Now, Joan says, it’s the only venue in the whole region that could accommodate a show of their size, which takes over all three pavilions.

Who’s on stage?

Thinking back over her 11 years with the show, Joan remembers the highlights: greeting visitors, seeing different products and meeting HGTV stars, like Mike Holmes and Brian Baeumler, who have presented on the Main Stage in past years. Coming up this March, Joan says the Main Stage will feature designers, organizers, builders and TV celebrity Andre Chevigny from Timber Kings.

And even more to do

Visitors can browse 200 vendor displays – watching demos and getting big ideas. They also have the chance to enter for home-betterment door prizes – last year, lucky winners received a water softener, BBQ, patio heater and gift cards. Plus, the show has plenty to keep kids happy too – including face painting and meeting animals, like last year’s Otis the Owl from the Medicine River Wildlife Centre.

Hope to see you out March 10th to 12th, 2017 at the 28th annual Red Deer Home Show at Westerner Park!
